This glorious pastime of Damodar-lila illustrates how the Supreme Lord is conquered by the love of His devotees. Due to the offense of breaking the butter pot, Krishna was punished by mother Yashoda by being bound to a wooden grinding mortar. Despite repeated attempts, Yashoda failed as the rope fell short by two fingers. Krishna withholding His mercy represents one finger and the other finger is the love and endeavor of His devotee. Finally the Supreme Lord in the form of her child bestowed His mercy and allowed himself to be bound by the ropes of her love.
