Janmashtami is the major festival for Vaishnavas. Traditionally devotees fast until midnight, the hour of Lord Krishna’s appearance, having spent the day performing devotional activities in honor of this most auspicious occasion. This festival celebrates His arrival in this world in His original form as a two-armed beautiful cowherd boy, with blusih hued skin who plays a flute and enjoys pastimes with His most intimate and loving devotees. Here we see the residents of Vrindavana jubilantly celebrating the appearance of Krishna in their midst as an endearing baby.
